HECER Master's Programme is a joint venture of the Aalto University, Hanken School of Economics, and the University of Helsinki. HECER Master's Degree Programme provides professional training for ambitious students with a Bachelor's degree. HECER offers a unique learning environment in economics in Finland. Economics offers a general set of tools to analyze and understand economic interaction. This analytical framework will be important for anyone pursuing a professional career in business or public sector. Graduates from the HECER Master's Programme are typically employed as economists, analysts, consultants or other specialists in business enterprises, banks, government, research institutions, and international organizations.
Students who have graduated from the HECER Master's Programme are also eligible to apply for doctoral studies at the Finnish and foreign universities. The programme, which emphasizes rigorous thinking and development of analytical skills, gives the students excellent background to perform well in a competitive Ph.D. programme.
The two-year HECER Master's Programme (120 ECTS credits) is structured according to recognized international standards. The training consists of core courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics as well as specialized courses in different fields (e.g. econometrics, industrial organization, international economics, labor economics, economic theory, dynamic macroeconomics, public economics, and development economics). Courses on development economics are given in cooperation with the World Institute for Development Economics Research of the United Nations University (UNU-WIDER).
A prospective student should choose one of the HECER's member institutions (Aalto University, Hanken School of Economics, or the University of Helsinki) as his or her target university. As the application procedures vary from one institution to another, the student is advised to consult the details from the application offices of each institution. Upon completion of the HECER Master's Programme in economics, students receive their degrees from the institution at which they are enrolled.
