Course Outline

The aim of this course is to provide the students with the necessary tools to apply some of the key modern microeconometric methods in applied work. Emphasis is therefore on how to use the tools, rather than on econometric theory. The course concentrates on cross-sectional methods.

Planned contents include: structural, causal and descriptive analysis, treatment effects, selection on observables, regression discontinuity, selection on unobservables, difference-in-difference, natural natural experiments, the bounds approach.

The course will include exercises.

Exam

  • NOTE: The final grade consists of your exam grade and your exercise grade. The weight of the final exam is 0.6.
  • Time: December 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Places:
    • AT THE PARTICIPANTS' OWN DEPARTMENTS
    • but in Helsinki only at one university where all students living in or near Helsinki can take the exam: Economicum, Arkadiankatu 7, seminar room 2.
  • Please register for the exam by sending an e-mail to fdpe-hecer@helsinki.fi (and let us know where you want to take the exam).
