Curriculum Doctoral studies in economics in all Finnish universities usually contain the following common elements: microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory, studies in methods and methodology and a student-specific field of study. For more information see Structure of Doctoral Studies in Finland. The courses organized annually by FDPE are designed to fit these common requirements:
See also the Plan for FDPE courses 2011-2016. All courses are given in English. Doctoral students not enrolled in FDPE, including students in foreign universities, are able to attend individual courses, for more information see How to Apply for the FDPE courses. Students' home departments are responsible for registering the grades according to their own requirements. FDPE gives the students, on request, a certificate of the courses passed within the programme. [top] FDPE arranges 3 core courses every academic year:
The core courses are divided in two parts: part I is arranged in autumn term and part II is arranged in spring term. In total the courses include 48 hours of lectures and 24 hours of exercises (8 ECTS credit points). The core courses are compulsory almost without exception but it is advisable to check this from your own department’s study guide. The course titles given in the departmental study guides may differ from those of the FDPE core courses, though. [top] The aim is to provide field courses that match the special courses available during the same academic year. Field courses provide essential background for special courses that deal with similar topics and/or use similar techniques. It is therefore strongly recommendable to view field and special courses as a package (parts I and II). FDPE arranges 4-5 field and special courses on different topics each year. Each course package is arranged in alternate years. The topics are:
Field and special courses are intensive courses. Thus, it is strongly recommended that students acquaint themselves with the required readings before attending the courses. Field courses include 30 hours of lectures, special courses 20 hours. In addition, there may be assignments and/or an exam. FDPE recommends that the field courses are acknowledged by the student's own university with 4 ECTS credit points and special courses with 3 ECTS credit points. Field and special courses organized by FDPE can be included in the student-specific field of studies. These courses have to be accepted as part of the doctoral studies by the students’ home department before the grades can be registered. [top] [top] |
